Yeah! You found some content. You just searched further than most people, so I‘ll reward you a little pre-interview. This should answer some questions you may have about me.

 :: Who are you? ::

Howdy! My name is Phil Catalfamo. I’m a healthy, 6’ tall male. I have a full head of hair and live in southern California.

 :: How do you pronounce ‘Catalfamo’? ::

When pronounced correctly, it sounds very sexy. Give it a try.

CA (kuh) - TAL (tall) - F (ph) – A (ah) – MO (moe)

 :: What do you do? ::

I’m a copywriter. It’s a cool way of saying I write everything from brochures, radio and television scripts, print advertisements, online ads, e-mails and web page content, direct mail pieces, blogs, billboards, sales letters, white papers and tag lines. I love what I do, that’s why I do it.

I also have a variety of interests like: garage sales, manscaping, bellybutton lint, gumdrops, and achieving world domination with some help from MySpace and Facebook.

 :: Can you write SEO content? ::

Yes, yes I can. Thank you for asking.

 :: What is SEO? ::

Basically, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) helps increase the volume and quality of your clients traffic by incorporating keywords and key phrases within your web site content to generate “organic” hits. There is much more to it but I won’t bore you with the technical stuff, just know I can do it.

I also write those little ads that appear on the right side of search engine results, known as Search Engine Marketing (SEM) or Pay Per Click advertising (PPC). I know the techniques to writing effective meta tags, title tags and descriptions. I even have a very good understanding of HTML, most other copywriters don’t.

 :: How did you become a copywriter? ::

Since wishing, hoping and praying didn’t work, I decided to go college. After receiving my BA in Communications and finishing an exciting internship at a Hispanic ad agency (no, I’m not a bilingual copywriter) I took another 2 years to create my portfolio. After a couple of freelance gigs, I got my first full-time copywriter job. It was a great feeling knowing that I finally made it. To me it was like winning the lottery.

 :: Are you a full-time copywriter or a freelance copywriter? ::

Both.

 :: Do you have any tips for new copywriters? ::

Always try new things. Read everything. Go outside and play. Hang out with friends. Network yourself. Write down every idea. Get a hobby. Listen to music. Fall in love. Pay it forward. Accept criticism. Learn from your mistakes. Never give up – ever!
